Journey for statement of intent

*Notes copied up on improvements for statement of intent

Product 1

  • Put the magazine focus/genre in the beginning - explain the genre and reference LIAR - link research (statistics and focus group)
  • Link back to research on your target audience - why are 16-25-year-olds interested in your topic
  • Showcase your research and prove yourself to them
  • Add in theory
  • Each paragraph should include at least one theory - it is useful when analyzing - Barthes (semiotics)
  • Cover star's social group can be shown through their clothes if you're stuck
  • If any part of your mise-en-scene becomes unavailable, you can change your statement at the end
  • Refer to both of the covers
  • Codes and conventions - refer to your research and give named examples (of research)
  • Make clear what mise-en-scene you will feature in your images and your audio-visual content - can anchor the social group
  • Be more specific in general
  • Dennis publishing - branding - give an example
  • State your intertextuality and easter eggs in your statement of intent
  • Digital convergence is particularly important in the magazine industry - Industry theorist e.g Hesmondhalgh

Product 2
  • Theory - Shirky (end of the audience)
  • Make interactive to adhere to theory e.g a comment box
  • Jenkins - participatory culture - have a page showing fan work and renditions of our work?
  • Website - industrial context - most media products have a cross-platform presence - link your research - a website is very complimentary and some magazines are only online (Teen Vogue)
  • A good quote from Dennis - "restlessly innovating across different platforms to bring our audience new sources of inspiration, information + entertainment"
  • There's a decline of print-making websites very helpful
  • Easter eggs - be specific - can include intertextuality which depends on the audience's cultural competency so you need to state for the examiner
  • Logo and slogans

Digital convergence

  • Particularly important in the magazine industry because people don't print as much anymore - Hesmondhalgh - 'playing it safe'
  • Consistent house style - informal mode of address
  • Social media pages are very important for target audience

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

SECOND DRAFT - 10/06/2020

Have an intertextual ref to MLK on the placard - begin it with 'I have a dream' and then go through bullet points
